Hi, Iā€™m jazzlyn smith.

I'm genuinely excited to share a bit about myself and why I'm so passionate about being a doula. šŸŒŸ My journey in doula work is rooted in a deep commitment to providing warm, culturally competent support. I have a special focus on being there for Black women/birthing people and their families. Drawing from my own experiences, I've found a unique wellspring of empathy and understanding that I bring to every interaction. I'm dedicated to staying in the know, constantly educating myself on the specific needs of the communities I'm here to serve. It's not just about what I know now; it's about the continuous learning journey. Staying informed about the latest in doula care is my way of making sure I'm always offering the best support possible. I'm all about openness and zero judgment. That's my promise to you ā€“ a safe and welcoming space where your unique story is not just heard but celebrated. While my faith as a believer in Jesus Christ informs who I am as a person, I want to assure you that I won't push it on you. Instead, it guides me to approach every individual with love, respect, and compassion, regardless of their beliefs. If it's your desire, I'm open to incorporating Jesus into our journey together, ensuring your comfort and support are in alignment with your beliefs. I truly believe that my one-of-a-kind background and perspective can make a meaningful, positive impact on the incredible individuals and communities I have the privilege of supporting during the transformative journey of childbirth. Can't wait to be a part of your journey!

My journey into doula work blends my B.S. in Psychology from Georgia State University with hands-on training from a DONA International approved workshop. This engaging workshop covered childbirth, lactation support basics, and the importance of postpartum care in a warm and inclusive environment. With this training under my belt, I'm here to provide compassionate and evidence-based support to families throughout their childbirth journey, ensuring they feel empowered and cared for every step of the way.

My professional journey

My journey into the world of doula work is a story of compassion, learning, and a deep-rooted belief in inclusivity. It all began with women near to me and their survival in maternal care, which ignited a passion to provide warm, culturally competent support, especially for those in marginalized communities like BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. Through my academic endeavors, including research supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and involvement in projects shaping policies around sexual assault, I've delved into the nuances of cultural understanding. My background in psychology has equipped me to grasp the psychological aspects of pregnancy, birth, and trauma, while my commitment to evidence-based practices ensures that I offer the most reliable support possible. Shifting from my initial aspirations in obstetrics, I've discovered the profound impact of doula work, where I can provide direct, personalized care. With an open heart and a dedication to continual growth, I strive to create a safe, inclusive space where every birthing person and their support system feels empowered and supported on their unique journey to parenthood.
